Over the past few months, I have gone a bit coconut crazy! Coconut oil, coconut butter, shredded coconut in recipes, etc. Why co-co-crazy? I had heard that coconuts, particularly coconut oil, offers a wide variety of benefits. And, I had heard that it had a wide variety of uses! So, I was curious and had to check it out!
Tropical Traditions is well known for being your source for coconut oil, although, they also sell organic food, health care products, and more! Tropical Traditions offers their Gold Label Virgin Coconut Oil, which is their highest quality coconut oil! This particular type of coconut oil is handcrafted in the Phillipines using traditions that have been passed down from generation to generation. Did you know that some studies have shown that coconut oil that is processed using traditional methods have the highest level of antioxidants?
"Tropical Traditions also carries other varieties of affordable high quality coconut oil. Visit their website to check on current sales, to learn about the many uses of coconut oil, and to read about all the advantages of buying coconut oil online. Since the FDA does not want us to discuss the health benefits of coconut oil on a page where it is being sold or given away, here is the best website to read about the health benefits of coconut oil."
Review
Compared to other coconut oils that I have used, I find that Tropical Traditions Gold Label has a slightly coconut smell and taste, and seems to be a bit richer in consistency. From what I've read, this is due to the fact that it is unrefined and thus considered to be a higher quality coconut oil. This also means that it nutritionally rich with higher levels of antioxidants (phenolic antioxidants)! Find out: What is Virgin Coconut Oil?
I love that coconut oil has such a long shelf life and that it does NOT need to be refrigerated (talk about convenient!). I also love that this coconut oil is so versatile; I use it as a replacement for margarine in my recipes (cup for cup). I have had success using this coconut oil in every instance. For example, making banana bread, pancakes, or even just adding it to smoothies (for a bit of coconut taste AND added nutrition)!
One thing that I love about this coconut oil is that it is certified organic (USDA)! We have been switching over to more and more organic products, so this was a welcomed addition to our pantry. I also like the method that Tropical Traditions uses to extract their coconut oil; it is traditional and because the oil is extracted by hand, it seems to be a friendlier option for the environment. Plus, Tropical Traditions doesn't use any chemicals or high-temperature treatments for their coconut oil; high-temperatures in food production causes nutrients to break down, which isn't a good thing!
I have really enjoyed using this coconut oil and would definitely recommend it, and use it again in the future! It has impressed me!

Would also love to try the Tropical Traditions. I'm actually using a different brand of coconut oil right now and find it effective for moisturizing my hair and skin. But I still want to try this one for me to see the difference. But I guess they just have the same benefits. Like any other organic coconut oil can give.
