On: Being a Mom and Mother's Day

For those of you who are Moms (or parents in general), you know that it is the one job that you are actively on call for 24/7/365.  It is the most important job you'll ever have, as well as the most demanding, but the most rewarding!

Before I was a Mom, I could imagine how being a mother would be but looking back, I realize that I never really fully understood it.  Because of this I've told my own Mom and Mother-in-law that I think, you can't truly appreciate Mother's Day (or Father's Day) before being a Mother (or a Father); you know as a child how it is important from your perspective but it is impossible to grasp how important it is from the parent's perspective.  Last year I was wished a Happy Mother's Day because I was pregnant, and I totally appreciated it because growing a baby is a lot of work! But, this year, being a Mom just meant so much more...I got it!

To me this Mother's Day was so special because, well, it was my first official Mother's Day! It was the first Mother's Day that I could reflect on being a Mom to the most amazing little girl for the past 9+ months of her life.  It was the first Mother's Day that I could look at, kiss, and cuddle my little girl. This, was the highlight of my day; just being with my daughter all day was so special.  It is so nice to have one dedicated day each year that you can spend with your children and your family.

Now, for the recap of my first Mother's Day....this year we had a busy day of Mother's Day activities. My day started off with a little bit of extra sleep throughout the night...Lyla seemed to somehow know that sleeping a bit more would be much appreciated! We decided to have lunch at Pineridge Hollow (which also happens to be where my husband and I got married) with me, my daughter, my husband, my Mom, and my Dad.  It was a great time for conversation and enjoying my daughter...the life of the party!  After a lovely afternoon, we drove out to my Mother-in-law's house for a BBQ with my husband's side of the family.  It was so great to spend the whole day with my daughter and the rest of my family!

My husband, my daughter Lyla, and me.

What I am looking most forward to for the next Mother's Day (and every subsequent Mother's Day) is once again spending the day with my daughter and the other people in my life that mean so much to me.  Also, each new Mother's Day is an opportunity to see how much my child has grown in the past year and remember all the special moments that we shared.
