Costume Discounters Review

When I was a child, I always loved dressing up! So, when it came time for Halloween, I was always excited about getting a new costume. Then, throughout the year, I would re-experience the joy of dressing up through make-belief play with my old costumes. I can't count how many pictures and memories I have of dressing up.   I still dress-up occasionally at Halloween but this year I'm particularly looking forward to dressing up my baby girl!

Costume Discounters is an online store that offers 'Super Costume Selections at Super Low Prices'.  Costume Discounters offers infant Halloween costumes through to adult Halloween costumes. They offer a wide range of styles and there is sure to be something for everyone.  When I was on the Costume Discounters website, I found it very easy to search and find what I was looking for.  I like that they offer the opportunity to search by age/size (e.g. infant/toddler, girls, teens, etc.) and by type of costume (e.g. Disney,  Christmas, Buntings, and more).

Costume Discounters is operated out of the USA (New Jersey) but offers shipping to their Canadian customers.  One great feature they offer for their USA customers is free shipping both ways.  That means if a costume arrives and you decide that the size or style isn't quite right, or the item arrives damaged, Costume Discounters will provide you with free shipping so they can make the problem right!  They pride themselves in offering a service that is truly 'risk free'.  I personally think this is a great idea.  As an added bonus, they also offer same day shipping when you order is placed by 5 p.m. EST.

Review

Costume Discounters sent me a costume of my choice to try out with my little girl. I chose the Pea In the Pod Bunting Newborn Infant Costume.  I thought this costume was super cute and perfect for my 'sweet pea'. 


When I received the costume, I thought it was really cute.  I especially love the little hat, complete with stem and leaf!  I also really like the peas.  The fact that the peas are removable (with velcro), is handy for storage and for spot cleaning.  When my baby girl is stretched out the peas look a bit sparse, but when she is curled up in my arms, the distribution of the peas is perfect - nice and clumped together. 

As for sizing, this costume is pretty well right in line with the sizing of 0-6 months.  My baby girl is 11 weeks now and there is still a lot of room for her to grow into. The costume would probably be a bit big for a newborn but perfectly sized for a 6 month old.

One aspect that I really like about this costume and find super helpful as a mom of a newborn is the opening on the backside of the costume.  The opening is made to make diaper changes super easy; it's great because you don't have to remove the whole costume just to change a diaper.

Unfortunately, I was a little bit disappointed in the fabric.  From the website, I assumed it would be made from a fleece material because that is what it looked like from the picture.  But, the fabric turned out to be polyester, a bit thin, and dry clean only (a bit inconvenient).  But, for the price (only $22.99), I think it makes sense that it is made from the fabric that it is.  Regardless, the fabric is fairly soft and even though the fabric is thin, there is lots of room to put warm clothes or a snowsuit on underneath, which is great!  I would suggest that the website include information on the type of fabric used.  This would be more customer friendly and may help limit returns.
