Eating Gluten-free with Chex!

Gluten intolerance seems to be becoming more and more popular all the time. I remember growing up and never hearing of such a thing. But in recent years, I have met a number of people who have to live eating gluten free.  Did you know that people aren't always born with gluten intolerances?  People can develop these intolerences over time, at anytime in their lives.  Statistics show that in Canada alone, 14% of people avoid gluten products.

Until recent years, this type of diet was quite restricting since there weren't many products made especially gluten free.  Products such as cereals, baking goods or mixes, and pastas often had to be eliminated from one's diet.  Luckily today, many brands are expanding their product line to include gluten free products.

Chex is a cereal that I have known about and have been enjoying for years!  With knowing the statistics on gluten intolerance in Canada, Chex was on a mission to develop a product that would not only be a good option for gluten avoiders but their families as well.  Chex now offers two gluten free cereals in Canada: Chex Honey Nut and Chex Rice. 

Although I'm fortunate enough to not have issues with gluten, I was interested in trying Chex's new gluten free cereals. When looking at my diet, I realized that I often eat gluten free without realizing it but hadn't actually tried gluten free specific products.  So, I thought it would be an interesting adventure!  At first, I wasn't quite sure what to expect.

Upon trying both cereals (I tried the honey nut first), I was pleasantly surprised!  They tasted great!  The honey nut cereal is made with corn and had a nice sweet (but not too sweet) flavour with a touch of nuttiness.  The Chex Rice cereal reminded me very much of the other rice based cereals on the market - it even sounded the same when I added milk to it!  Although, I much prefer the shape of Chex to other rice cereals - it helps the cereal stay crisp a little bit longer!  After trying both of these cereals, I wouldn't hesitate buying them in the future.  Although I don't have to eat gluten free, I see a benefit in diversifying my cereal options.

Another great thing that Chex has done is created a website that includes a number of new gluten free recipes that use Chex cereal!  That means that you can experiment with Chex's new gluten free cereals morning, noon, or night!  Some recipes include Favourite Chicken Nuggets, Meat Loaf Squares, and Triple Berry Mini Cheese Cakes!  For these great recipes and more, visit www.chexcanada.com!

So, whether or not you have to eat gluten free or are just interested in trying it out, Chex's gluten free cereals are a great option!  Both Chex gluten free cereals can now be found in your regular grocer's cereal aisle.
