Works-in-Wood Review & Giveaway!

A while back, I came across this wonderful Etsy shop called Works-in-Wood that is based out of the UK that specializes in making things for the home and garden out of English Hardwood. I am a big fan of anything made from wood, so I thought this store was just amazing. From the pictures, you can see the amount of hard work and detail that goes into making each and every piece. Once looking through this shop, I discovered that he also has an online shop for those people wishing to UK price. For the time being all his Etsy prices are in US$. As you look through both stores, you will notice that Works-in-Woods prices are extremely reasonable.

Here is a bit from the owner himself:
“I'm Chris Fox, my website is http://works-in-wood.co.uk/. I am Working from the basement workshop of an 18th century Stone Built Silk Mill close to the City of Lancaster in Northwest England, I use as far as possible locally sourced Hardwoods. I make Bowls and Platters, Wooden Housewares and Wooden items for the garden. I can also custom turn replacement bits and pieces, i.e.: Drawer and cupboard knobs, replacement spindles, finials etc. I do buttons too; in fact any small wooden item in an English Hardwood is a possibility.”

Here are a couple of my favorite items from Works-in-Wood:

Spalted Beech Bowl

Lidded Pot in English Maple

Review
Chris, the owner of Works-in-Wood was kind enough to send me one of his beautiful products to review. I received the English Oak Plant Labels and Seedling Dibber. First of all, I really loved the solid sturdy wood that he used to make both the dibber and the plant labels. All the pieces were sanded well and did not appear to have any rough patches. The plant labels were an excellent size and I think they would be perfect for any size garden. I found a couple differences from the online product picture to what I received (please view pictures below). First, I found that the plant labels I received actually to appear and feel more durable (thicker) than the ones shown in the shop picture. Secondly, I thought that the dibber that I received was a bit smaller and narrower than the one shown in the online picture. I think a dibber with a bit thicker end (as show in the shop picture) would work a bit better than the thinner end (as shown in my picture). Overall, I think these pieces would hold up quite well to the weather and would make a great stocking stuffer or gift for the gardener in your life.

  80. When I was growing up my Dad was a great gardener and grew the best veggies I have ever tasted and his flowers won so many blue ribbons I lost track but have an entire album of pictures of his winners. I learned my love of gardening from him but now my health will no longer allow me to garden out of doors so have changed to indoor gardening (you can't keep a good gardner down my neighbor says). Have pots of tomatos and peppers and herbs growing all year round, two beds of mushrooms in the cellar and would love these markers for the indoor ornamentals that fill all my window ledges.
